Quick Tips for Maximizing your Home Theater Experience this Holiday Season

Looking to put all that great new gear you received over the holidays to use? Let THX take you from dud to home theater stud with these quick tips.

  1. Buying the Right Size TV
According to THX Certified Professionals, most consumers regret going too small with their TV purchase. Think about it - are you happy with the TV size you chose? Or are you still dreaming about that 50-inch THX Certified plasma beauty that you left behind at Best Buy?

Choosing the appropriate size TV size for your home comes down to seating distance—how far you sit from the screen. If you buy a massive TV and sit three feet away, you're going to be staring at pixels and lines. If you buy one that's too small, you won't get an immersive visual experience in your living room.

  2. Proper TV Placement
When mounting your new TV at home, think about the appropriate viewing angle. If you mount the TV too high on a wall, you will be constantly looking up to watch the programming, just like sitting in the front row of a movie theater. If it's too low, you will constantly be looking down at the screen.

  3. Proper Speaker Placement
Speaker placement is essential to experiencing every detail of your favorite slasher film. Don't be scared off by space restrictions or room aesthetics.

Since close to 90 percent of a movie soundtrack comes from the Center Channel, where you place it has a huge impact on your overall sound experience. Make sure the Left, Center and Right speakers are always placed to the listener's left, center and right. Also, try to keep the subwoofer close to the TV, while making the bass as consistent as possible from seat to seat.
